BEDAC

2004 marked the 30th anniversary (PDF) of the birth of Brookline’s in-school extended day programs, the first in the nation. Brookline’s Extended Days provide critical programming for children of working parents. Operating in all eight of Brookline’s K-8 schools, Brookline’s Extended Days serve 1 out of 4 Brookline elementary school children and provide a wealth of academic support, enrichment and recreation activities.

Brookline’s eight Extended Days work closely with school principals and teachers. However, each is a separately incorporated not-for-profit and is overseen by a parent-led Board of Directors. These programs have a long history of excellence and are led by a talented group of professional administrators and teachers.

While Extended Days have always worked closely with one another, each retains a distinctive personality borne of its host school community. In 2000, the eight Brookline extended days formally joined hands to form the Brookline Extended Day Advisory Council (BEDAC). This collaboration works to ensure continued broad accessibility and high quality school-based, after-school programming in Brookline. Please take a minute to review BEDAC’s vision and mission statements. This site, our first, also includes a list of our current Board of Directors and a directory of the eight extended day programs. See coverage of BEDAC in Our Town Brookline (PDFs, page 1, page 2)
